While the relief efforts continue from Hurricane Florence in the Carolina’s, a Canadian Red Cross employee from Saskatchewan is making her way down to the disaster area to help.
Candace Lamb from Saskatoon is leaving for the U.S. to assist the American red cross with relief efforts in a public affairs role.
Lamb said she’s expecting to see a devastating scene.
“I expect that you’re going to see some of the destruction, you’re going to see how it has effected people’s lives, you always have that to consider when you’re being deployed into situations like this.”
On September 14th, the storm hit the Eastern United States, killing 48 people and leaving thousands more without homes.
Lamb said there are still several issues people are dealing with in the Hurricane relief efforts.
“We’re not out of the woods yet, and it’s something that we’re going to have to keep an eye on obviously,” Lamb said. “We need to not treat this as something that’s hit and left; flooding continues on and will be affecting people greatly, road closures, everything like that.”
