Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be worried about ticks.
The province is stating residents should continue to take precautions against tick bites.
The black-legged tick carrying Lyme Disease causing bacteria is rare in Saskatchewan, but can stay active for a while.
“The black legged tick, the one that can carry Lyme disease, can be active both in the spring, the early summer and then again into the fall,” said Phil Curry, Ministry of Health Entymologist
According to the province, this type is most active during October, November and April.
To protect oneself against it, Dr. Denise Werker, the province’s Deputy Chief Medical Health Officer, said people should inspect themselves and their pets.
“Dogs in particular, they pick up these ticks,” she said.
