We are getting more information from RCMP about an incident Monday morning where a Mountie with the Blaine Lake detachment was injured in a hit and run.
The officer had stopped a truck on Highway 40, about 16 kilometers west of Richard, when the driver fled in the vehicle. He turned the vehicle around and tried to run the officer down. He was taken to North Battleford hospital with injuries considered serious, but non life-threatening where he as treated and released.
Battlefords RCMP say the suspect vehicle, a white Ford F350 truck, was located a few hours later on a grid road. Two attempts to use a spike belt failed with the driver hitting several police vehicles while carrying on.
A third attempt with the spike belt resulted in one tire deflating, but the man continued to drive the vehicle on three tires to Highway 4 where he sped away causing the pursuit to end because of a risk to public safety.
Other officers managed to locate the damaged vehicle entering the town of Cochin where the driver parked at a gas station and tried to steal another vehicle. It was there where he was finally taken into custody just before 10:30 a.m.
A 37 year old man from Lloydminster is facing several charges including theft of the Ford F350 as it was stolen in that city on Sunday.
