Ever since I found out my blood pressure was a little too high for my doctor’s liking, I’ve been checking the amount of sodium in most everything I buy nowadays. It’s not that I’ve never looked at a nutrition label on the food I buy, I just never really paid any attention to sodium.
Obviously, the lower amount of sodium, the better. My rule of thumb now is to find products with a single digit sodium count. I’ll even grab items in the low double digits.
I used to eat at least a bag of cheezies every day. When I actually read the nutrition label on the back of the bag, I almost jumped out of my boots. The sodium count was 34%. I haven’t had a bag since.
Yesterday was the first time I had ever seen a triple digit sodium count. I was going through the meat department at my local grocery store when I came across a bag of salted cod sticks. Out of curiosity, I flipped the bag over and checked the label. The sodium count was, are you ready for this? 414% sodium!! I almost jumped out of my boots, pants, and underwear on that one!
The only safe place to eat those fish sticks is in the back of an ambulance on the way to the hospital!
Speaking of the hospital, Evans and I will be broadcasting live from the Grand Prize Show Home for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation Home Lottery this morning from 5:30-10.
Stop by and grab a ticket. You never know when you’ll eat a bag of salted cod sticks and end up needing the services of your local hospital!
