Mayor Michael Fougere provided an update on the current status of a private members strip club operating in the city, and their discussions on the current bylaws.
Earlier this week, the club posted on their Facebook page stating no events will be held there for at least a month until paper work and permits are filed with the city.
Fougere said both parties have been in communication.
“We have been in contact with the owner, and we have expressed to them the need to comply with our bylaws.”
Fougere was unable to provide the nature of those conversations, and was only able to say that the two parties were conversing directly with one another.
The SLGA has also been in contact with the strip club in regards to the province’s liquor laws, which prevents serving liquor during strip performances.
“I can’t confirm it’s been shut down, but we have been telling them what they need to do to comply,” Fougere said. “I know that (SLGA) has done that as well, and those talks continue, but I can’t tell you exactly where they’re at today.”
The club has been in operation since the end of April and has said it is operating within the law.
