Willie Jefferson is being recognized by the CFL for his efforts in Monday’s 19-12 win over the Edmonton Eskimos as he was named one of the league’s top performers of the week on Wednesday.
Jefferson had five tackles and a sack in the game, but it was his 49 yard interception return for a touchdown with less than two minutes to go that provided the winning points giving Saskatchewan their seventh win in the last eight games and clinching a playoff spot for them.
For the season, Jefferson has a career-high nine sacks, 31 tackles and two interceptions—both which have been returned for touchdowns.
The Riders will look to secure a home playoff game Saturday in Winnipeg when they meet the Bombers in a 12 0’clock start Saskatchewan time. A victory in that game combined with a BC Lions loss in Calgary would mean the green-and-white could finish no lower than second in the West.
