Recently I’ve gotten in to playing records after getting a fairly large collection. It’s evolved into not just an entertainment thing but also into a learning experience since well I’m not to familiar with the format. I know what it is and how to use it to a degree, proper set up and speeds for example confuse me. I do know how to properly take care and mostly how to play them. I know that 12inch records are played at 33 and 7inch singles at 45, I’ve drilled that into my head so much in the last little while because I don’t want to ruin the records. Now I was given an EP from Colin here lately and I thought great I’ll fire it up and give it a listen. This is where things go wrong. Despite the fact that the EP is a standard 12inch record it apparently doesn’t get played at 33 but at 45. I lost a half a friggin hour to figuring that out. There actually is a reason, I don’t understand that reason at all but there’s a reason. Playing with new toys is fun but sometimes maybe you should sit down and look things up a head of time that way your not losing a half an hour to something or worse wrecking things.
