Customers at the new cannabis dispensary in the RM of Edenwold say it was a long time coming.
The first legal purchase of cannabis in the Regina area was made Wednesday at Eden, which is near the town of Pilot Butte.
Customer Josh Lys said while the cost is high, it’s worth it for him.
“(It’s) a little much, but right now it makes a bit of sense with the limited amount of stock, it will be a bit pricey right now.”
Lys said he is excited legalization day is finally here.
“I figured it might happen in my time, but I was thinking 20-15 years from now eventually,” Lys said. “It’s exciting to know that things have gone much faster than that, and that it’s happened in this point in time in our history.”
However, some customers left the cannabis dispensary this morning with a bad taste in their mouth. Customer Rob Schatz said the amount of taxes he paid on his legal cannabis was an eye-opener.
“I paid over $100 in taxes (Wednesday) so I’m lucky that it’s for a couple of friends of mine too,” Schatz said. “(I’ll) just have to see what the product is like, and just have to see I guess.”
Stores in Regina are expected to slowly start opening over the next month.
