The University of Regina has had their appeal with USports Canada concerning the Rams and an ineligible player.
While the player has been reinstated, the wins have not been.
A release from the U of R states “U Sports has confirmed a binding decision that the forfeitures stand,” though “the student-athlete’s eligibility for future games was instated.” The university has also directed its director of sports, community engagement and athlete development, Lisa Robertson, to start talks with “external colleagues with respect to the appropriateness of future penalties.”
The team had wins against UBC, Alberta and Manitoba taken away from them earlier this month after discovering an administrative error had been made making him ineligible. They self-reported the violation to Canada West and USports who handed down the penalty.
Because of the forfeits, the team’s record now stands at 1-5 instead of 4-2 as they head into what is a must-win game against Calgary Friday night at McMahon Stadium. The Dinos are the number one team in Canada with a perfect 6-0 record.
