Yesterday at the Regina and District Chamber of Commerce Business to Business Expo I had the opportunity to speak with Sash Broda of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. The Harvard radio stations in Regina, which includes 620 CKRM, are gearing up for our annual radiothon at Hill Tower Two downtown Regina in November to help the new children’s hospital in Saskatchewan get the very best equipment.
“We’ll be back on the airwaves fundraising to help equip surgical spaces and trauma spaces in the new children’s hospital,” explained Broda. “The surgical suites are really one of a kind in Saskatchewan, the first surgical suites for kids (and) dedicated to kids in Saskatchewan, so we’ll be making sure kids here get the the health care they need through the radiothon.”
The 176 bed Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is situated in Saskatoon and is nearing completion. A need for a medical facility like this was realized many years ago and fundraising efforts started as soon as possible. Construction on the new hospital began in September of 2014 and doors are expected to open in 2019, thanks to the generous donations of Saskatchewanians both current and former.
“You might not know a family or a kid that has been in a hospital but there are families all around in Saskatchewan, in Regina, in Estevan, all across the entire province that, today, leave the the province to get the health care they need, so having this children’s hospital is going to mean the world to those kids and to those families,” reflected Broda.
The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon can be heard on 620 CKRM November 7th and 8th. More details on the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation can be found by clicking here.
