A market analyst says the fall movement of calves off pasture to market is putting pressure on prices.
According to Anne Wasko, calf prices are down five to 10 cents a pound this month.
She believes that strong demand, however, should buffer any further downward pressure.
“All year, both in the US and Canada, we’ve seen strong domestic demand,” she said. “Retailers, food service continue to move beef.”
Wasko says Canadian beef exports are up 4% so far in 2018, with shipments from the Americans being even higher.
