This past weekend my wife and I had our granddaughters over to stay with us and those girls don’t miss a beat. It’s not even Halloween yet and our youngest asked me when we were setting up this Christmas tree. Really? We’re more 2 months away and they’re already thinking ahead to Christmas? The Christmas flyers haven’t even arrived yet. However, it won’t be long now.
I imagine the flyers and Toys ‘R’ Us Christmas catalogue will be showing up in our mailbox within the next couple of weeks. After that, it’s straight to the computer to start our Christmas shopping.
My wife and I have graduated to the point where nearly all of our Christmas shopping is done online. It makes life a whole lot easier. We don’t have to battle traffic, lousy weather, or long line-ups. It’s all done with the tips of our fingers.
I remember when the Christmas catalogues would show up at our house when I was a kid. It was so exciting. I’d go straight to the sports section and check out all of the hockey equipment before making my way to the toy section. We would pick out everything we wanted. We’d hand all of that critical information to mom and then count down the days until Christmas.
Of course, mom had to actually head out to the stores to buy everything back then. She didn’t have the luxury of the internet or online shopping. It must have been a bit of a pain in the a**, but she always came through.
Christmas shopping might have become a lot easier over the years, but it certainly hasn’t become less expensive!
