Veterans Week in Regina began Sunday with a re-dedication of the Cenotaph.
A service was held at Victoria Park, revealing plaques commemorating Canada’s participation in the Boer War and in Afghanistan.

For Lieutenant-Commander James Balfour, this was important.
“The Boer War was, in fact, the first war where Canadians were deployed overseas. The war in Afghanistan is the longest war that we’ve ever had.”
Several veterans who served in the Afghanistan conflict were also present, including Sergeant Terance Elford.
For him, the ceremony brought everything home.
“Support from the military, especially in Regina, it’s always pretty good. It’s just good to see people coming out and actually appreciating things that other soldiers, comrades, stuff that we’ve all done.”
