Willie Jefferson, Charleston Hughes, Ed Gainey, Brendon LaBatte and Brett Lauther have been recognized as CFL Western Division all-stars.
Jefferson had a career high 10 sacks on the season with a career high two interceptions–both that were returned for touchdowns. He is the Riders nominee for Most Outstanding Player and Top Defensive Player. He was also named an all-star in 2017.
Hughes picked up his 7th Western Division all-star after a season that saw him lead the league in sacks for the third straight year as he had 15.
Gainey, who was also an all-star last season, had three interceptions including one that was returned for a touchdown and 51 tackles on the season.
LaBatte became an all-star for the 9th time in his 11 year CFL career and his 6th as a member of the Riders. He is the team’s nominee for Most Outstanding Lineman.
Lauther was 54 for 60 on field goals this season including two games where he was six-for-six. Lauther, who receives his first Western Division all-star selection, is the team’s nominee for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and Outstanding Canadian.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and B.C Lions each placed seven players on the Western Division team. Calgary had six with Edmonton placing two.
