It is anyone’s guess as to whether or not Zach Collaros or Brandon Bridge will be the starting quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Sunday’s Western Semi-Final against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Despite the fact Collaros was listed atop the depth chart when it was released Saturday morning, neither Jones or Collaros would confirm who the starter will be.
When asked, Jones replied with “We prepare both quarterbacks to play, and that’s it.”
The question about who the starter would be has been revolving around Rider Nation ever since Collaros left the Riders regular-season finale against B.C on October 27 after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from Lions defensive lineman Odell Willis. Despite saying he would be ready to go earlier in the week, Bridge was taking a majority of first-team reps on Friday sparking speculation Collaros may not be 100 percent,
Collaros was one of several players to speak with reporters on Saturday, but he wasn’t divulging any information when asked either.
When asked if he knew if he was starting or not, he answered yes, but he would not say what his role will be.
Collaros was also asked why the Riders are taking this stance and if they feel this will throw the Bombers off-balance, he wouldn’t commit to an answer on that either.
“That remains to be seen.” Collaros said. “It would be a better question for coach O’Shea and coach Hall (Winnipeg head coach Mike O’Shea and defensive co-ordinator Richie Hall), from a game-planning standpoint, but this is how we decided to play it.
Game time on Sunday afternoon is 3:30. 620 CKRM’s game-day coverage will start at 12:30. The winner moves on to play the Calgary Stampeders in the Western Final on November 18. The Eastern Division semi-final will go in Hamilton with the Ti-Cats entertaining the B.C. Lions. The winner of that game will be in Ottawa November 18.
