A fire on the Cowessess First Nation has destroyed its Catholic Church.
The blaze started around 2 AM this Wednesday morning with the fire department saying it had burned to the ground by 6 AM and that when they arrived, it was fully engulfed in flames.
It is not known what may have started the fire.
Cowessess Chief Cadmus Delorme said it is a blow.
“The church has been on the Cowessess First Nation for over 60 years, so to have a building that’s sat there for over 60 years, and (we) kind just grown around it with our hall, and our school, and everything near by,” Delorme said. “To have it gone (Wednesday), it’s definitely a loss.”
The Cowessess First Nation is about 15 kilometers north of Broadview.
