The CFL is dishing out the same punishment to Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat that it handed out to B.C.’s Odell Willis for a headshot on a Rider quarterback.
On Thursday, the league announced Jeffcoat gets the maximum fine for his hit on Brandon Bridge at the end of last weekend’s Western semi-final.
That hit and the fact a penalty was not called resulted in the league taking some heat. As a result of the backlash received, the CFL announced Thursday that an eighth official will be on the field for the remainder of the season to solely watch the hits a quarterback takes and whether or not it is high. It is a measure which may continue moving forward with Commissioner Randy Ambrosie saying it will be discussed in the off-season.
