Former Humboldt Broncos Head Coach and General Manager Darcy Haugan is being remembered by Briercrest college Friday night.
Haugan was one of the 16 members of the team killed in the Broncos bus crash on April 6th on the way to a playoff game in Nipawin. He also is Briercrest’s single season record holder for points in a season.
Haugan’s wife Christina said it’ll be good to be back at Briercrest.
“Darcy was actually invited back to speak at their graduating player banquets last February, so we went back together then, so I’m excited to go back,” Haugan said. “There’s lots of memories there for us, (and) they’re happy memories, so I think that’s the part that we enjoy, it the happy memories.”

Christina said Briercrest is where she and Darcy met.
“So we dated there for two years, so we have a lot of really good memories,” Haugan said. “Most of them surrounding the arena and him playing hockey for the Clippers, so it’ll be pretty exciting to go see them there, and for them to retire his number is pretty special to us because that number 22 is how I remember him.”
Christina said it will be an emotional experience for her and her boys.
“It’ll be different (Friday night) for them (her sons) to be around, and to have so many players that knew Darcy and played with Darcy, and just to see his jersey number and that, it means a lot to us and it’s very special,” Haugan said. “We’re pretty appreciative to the team and the town and all of them for doing this for us.”
Christina and her sons, as well as Darcy’s parents will be in attendance tonight to watch as his number 22 will be retired by the Clippers.
