Christmas spirit will be rolling into town a little differently this year.
Wheaton Kia General Manager Greg Gilbertson said this year’s annual Santa Claus Parade will be taking a different route, making the parade little shorter. “It’s going to be on North Albert. It starts at the corner of Albert Street and 2nd Avenue North. It will head north and finishes at the Northgate Mall.”
Gilbertson said this is a shorter route than previous years, but that will not effect the quality of the parade with over 50 entrants so far.
“There’s some great dance groups, some great baton groups, looks like there’s going to be some really cool floats and just a little bit of everything.” He added that “we have a really awesome surprise that’s going to start the parade this year that we are really excited about.”
Gilbertson wouldn’t give up any hints on what the surprise is, and said people will just have to wait and see.
“Not only is there a surprise, but Canada Post will also be collecting letters to Santa on the parade route,” Gilbertson said. “We encourage all the kids to write down their Christmas list, put their letter into an envelope and the Canada Post trucks will collect the letters as they go along.”
Sunday’s parade gets underway at 1:00 p.m., closing down Albert Street in both directions including Albert North from 2nd to 9th Avenue and Albert South from 6th to 2nd Avenue.
The weather also looks to be cooperating, with a high of -5 C and a chance of flurries.
