Those watching Hockey Night in Canada on Sporsnet Saturday night may have had their ears perk up when hearing Elliotte Friedman report the NHL could be looking at bringing an outdoors game to Regina and Mosaic Stadium.
The WHL wanted to play an outdoors game at the stadium last winter in conjunction with the Regina Pats 100th anniversary as they were scheduled to take on the Moose Jaw Warriors, but the game was moved inside to the Brandt Centre due to poor ticket sales and weather issues.
Friedman did not say when the game would be played or what teams might be involved.
The NHL has two outdoor games happening this year. The traditional one on New Year’s Day which this year will be played in South Bend, Indiana as Chicago and Boston play at Notre Dame with another game going in February in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field–the home of the Philadelphia Eagles as the Flyers meet Pittsburgh.
