We always had an artificial tree when I was growing up and that hasn’t changed. What has changed over the years is it doesn’t take me 12 hours to untangle the lights I put up on the tree. Years ago we bought a pre-lit tree. Talk about the cat’s meow! Stringing the lights was my least favourite job when it came to setting up the tree every year, and fortunately, the guy who invented the pre-lit tree must have felt the same way. Thank you dear sir. I am forever in your debt.
On December 22, 1882, Edward Johnson, a friend of Thomas Edison and vice president of the Edison Electric Light Company, displayed the first electrically illuminated Christmas tree. Rumour had it that he actually invented the lights two years earlier, but it took him a couple of years to untangle them.
My wife has a majority of our Christmas shopping done already and she had to do it the old-fashioned way by actually going to the store. We usually do 90% of our shopping online, but with the uncertainty of what was going to happen with Canada Post, we didn’t want to take the chance of gifts not showing up until January. “Hey kids. Merry Christmas. Your gifts should be here next month, or the month after that!”
It’s not even December 1st yet and it’s already beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
