The class of 2018 is officially on duty.
On Friday, eight new recruits received their caps and badges, as they were welcomed to the Regina Fire and Protective Services squad.
The day was especially memorable for one recruit, Austin Brown, who received his cap and badge from his father.
“I’ve looked up to him for my whole life,” he said. “To be able to receive that meant alot to me and I know it meant alot to him too.”
It was equally special for Captain Todd Brown, who expressed how proud he was of his son.
“To see your son, any of your children, when they grow up, this is the start of their next life.”
Being a member of emergency services is a family tradition, with Captain Brown noting his son has an uncle and cousin who are also firefighters, serving at other centres.
Following the ceremony, the new firefighter was given their assignments to their platoons and fire halls.
