Holiday parties are now in full swing meaning Operation Red Nose is coming back.
SGI says it is partnering with the organization once again to make sure everyone gets home safe. SGI’s Tyler McMurchy says volunteers will be available in 5 Saskatchewan cities including Regina , Saskatoon and Yorkton. ” We know that people will be out celebrating the holidays and sometimes those celebrations involve impairing substances. Our message to everybody is that if you are going to be impaired, you need to plan a safe ride home before you go out. Operation Red Nose is a great option for people and we encourage people to check them out.”
McMurchy says impaired driving is the number one cause of fatalities on Saskatchewan roadways. He adds that this is completely preventable. “We want this holiday season to be one that people remember for all the good time, cheer and good times people spend with their friends and family. We don’t want anybody to remember this holiday season as the year they got charged with a DUI or got into a collision and injured or killed someone.”
Operation Red Nose Regina Co-Chair Jason Moser says the campaign will run until December 31st. Moser says when you call the organization, three people will show up. One person will drive your car home, one will drive you home and the third will navigate for the driver. He adds each ride is by donation and will be redistributed to local organizations that have safe ride home services, support youth and amateur sports in the community.
Moser says they are looking for more volunteer drivers to help out on weekends. He says you can find more information and volunteer forms on operationrednose.com.
