Regina police say a dog that charged at one of its officers on Monday morning and was shot will likely have to be euthanized.
Officers were assisting the Regina Fire Department battle a blaze on the 700 block of Cameron Street by getting people out of the home safely.
A man was found at the rear of the property who eventually went to a police car to warm up. The dog, which had been barking and acting aggressively, was at the police vehicle and charged an officer who went to the vehicle to check on the man. At that point, the officer fired two shots, one which hit the dog.
The animal was found a short distance away and was taken for surgery, but it is believed he will have to be euthanized.
The cause of the fire is not known. An investigation continues.
