Coaches and scouts from Canadian and American universities will be descending on Wilcox and Milestone this weekend for the Mandi Schwartz Invitational Tournament.
16 female midget teams from across Western Canada including the Regina Rebels and Notre Dame Hounds will be on the ice looking to win the prestigious event that begins Thursday morning with the final going on Sunday.
Schwartz played minor hockey at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox before joining the Yale Bulldogs after graduating high school in 2006. In 2008, she was diagnosed with leukemia and while undergoing a strong fight and having a bone marrow transplant, she succumbed to the disease in April 2011.
This is the 8th year of the tournament.
