Welcome to the season of breaking bread – it’s POTLUCK TIME! Away we go with concocting culinary delights in a pot for work or social gatherings. Are you a fan or not!?
It sounds like a brilliant idea and there are those that absolutely LOVE this; they have a signature dish. Then there is the other group that immediately sign on for the easiest thing ever, like buns! They don’t make them, they buy them. How about the chips and dip! Veggies and dip – oh wait, you might have to wash and cut the veggies.
I fall into the category of “let’s try this idea” or “why is all the good stuff already accounted for”. Do these creations work out? Not always! One year for the Welsh Society Christmas Potluck, I took a ham, that was appreciated. But, quantity wise, I had ham for days!
Another barrier is working early in the morning and walking to work with your “dish”. It is rather awkward walking along with a crock pot of hot food.
The beauty of course, of the potluck is that there are so many different flavours. People don’t need to take large helpings of food. If you sign up and feed only those that are on the list, there should be enough food to go around. And there will still be leftovers.
I will continue to search for something that is appropriate for Friday and the office event on the 21st. I’m thinking cheese and crackers, maybe a pasta dish. How much time do I need to create the WOW factor – is 30 minutes enough.
