The Canada Cup of Curling is in full swing in Estevan, as the final round robin games are being played Saturday morning with the finals in each of the men’s and women’s events going Sunday
So far, fans have come out in droves to watch some of the best curling on the tour take place in the Energy City.
Vice-chair of the organizing committee Devon Fornwald said everything has gone well for the event.
“The crowds are showing up, the curlers are all here, the ice is fantastic – the ice makers have done a fantastic job on that,” Fornwald said. “The facility is just wonderful for an event like this.”
Fornwald said Affinity Place has been a great fit for the Canada Cup.
“A lot of the curlers have said this is one of the best facilities for an event this size across Canada and around the world some of them said, it’s hard to beat the facility.”
Vice-chair of the organizing committee, and Devon’s wife, Helen, said fans and players alike have thoroughly enjoyed Estevan’s version of the Canada Cup.
“We were seeing some fantastic talent at shot making, the fans are cheering, they are excited.” Fornwald said. “Our 1200 students that we have that came the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday were ecstatic and just raised the roof for entertainment here.”
When asked about future events coming to the Energy City, both Fornwald’s said with the success this year’s Canada Cup has generated, it’s possible to see another major curling event come to Affinity Place in the future.
