The temperature may be a little colder than we would like it to be at this time of year, but that doesn’t mean all bodies of water are frozen solid.
As a result, Regina Fire is reminding you to stay away from all bodies of wa ter, including Wascana Lake and creek, storm channels and retention ponds in residential areas.
While ice is starting to form on water bodies around the city, it is only a thin layer with the city telling people they should not walk, ski, skate or play on any body of water unless being notified to do so,
Parents and guardians are asked to talk with children about safety, and suggests keeping dogs on leash when close to bodies of water. If a pet breaks through the ice, you are advised not to attempt a rescue yourself as it could put you in serious danger as well.
Anyone seeing people, particulary small children playing on water or close to thin ice is asked to Regina Police or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency.
