Regina Police are cautioning people to not leave their cars running while unattended.
In a seven day stretch between December 4th and 11th, 40 cars were stolen, over half of them had keys in the vehicle.
Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich said by doing that, it’s presenting thieves with an opportunity.
“By asking people to remove the keys from their vehicles and to not leave their vehicles running while unattended, it’s a very simple crime prevention strategy that could prevent lots of inconvenience,” she said.
Popowich notes the service is always looking at ways to discuss with people the importance of securing their vehicles and not leaving their keys in their cars.
“Unless that’s what you mean to do, don’t. Don’t do the equivalent of gift wrapping the vehicle and leaving it running with the keys inside.”
