Saskatchewan farm leaders welcome a senate suggestion to provide more federal support to farmers facing a carbon tax.
The Senate Agriculture Committee proposes federal incentives for beneficial farm management practices and develop offset protocols for farmers to receive income from carbon credits.
While he opposes the price on pollution, Chair of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Jim Wickett welcomes the plan.

“If they’re going to barge ahead with this carbon tax, which it sounds like they’re determined to do, they can’t not recognize the huge advances and changes in practices for the better that the farming community has done.”
Also, Wickett points out reduced summerfallow acreage and less stubble burning have greatly reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
