Last night was Christmas concert time for our 9 year-old granddaughter Kelcey at Elsie Mironuck School. I love these concerts with the kids. They sing out of tune and many times most of the kids forget the words to the songs they’re singing, but nothing sounds more wonderful!
We got there half an hour early and still had to wait behind 60 or 70 others waiting for the doors to open. Good thing it was a beautiful night out. Once we were in I said hi to a bunch of people I knew and was greeted by a few people I couldn’t remember ever meeting, which was followed by my wife’s usual refrain, “Do you know everybody?”
We were lucky. Kelcey’s group started off the evening at 6! The gymnasium where they held the concert isn’t a large one, so organizers asked that parents and grandparents please leave when their kids were done singing to make room for others. We were out of there by 6:15, but driving away from the school proved a little more difficult.
When we were leaving, due to cars parked on both sides of an already narrow road, we had to deal with single lane traffic, which isn’t easy when you’ve got 4 or 5 vehicles moving in opposite directions with no place to go. There was a lot of pulling over and backing up before vehicles could actually make their way to wherever it was they were trying to get to. It took us about 10 minutes to drive the half block we needed before turning off on to a more vehicle friendly road.
It wasn’t a long evening, but it definitely was one of the best I’ve had in a long time!
