SGI’s traffic safety focus for November was on suspended or unregistered drivers, with more than 1400 tickets issued.
SGI’s Tyler McMurchy said those ticketed will feel the financial pinch.
“(It’s a) $580 fine, which I know this time of year everybody is buying Christmas presents,” McMurchy said. “You could buy a nice Christmas present, or maybe several for $580.”
McMurchy said police caught 288 impaired drivers, almost 730 distracted drivers and issued more than 5 thousand speeding tickets.
“One of the things that people need to keep in mind is these are the things that police are looking for month in and month out because these are the major contributing factors when it comes to fatalities on Saskatchewan roads.”
December’s traffic safety focus is impaired driving.
