Twenty-four incidents of items being stolen from vehicles this past weekend, has once again prompted Regina Police to send out a news release, asking people to secure their vehicles.
Police said about half of these thefts occurred when vehicles were left unattended in busy parking lots, with valuables in the vehicle in plain sight.
“We know that it takes time and effort to remove valuables from plain view inside a vehicle, but those few minutes and that extra effort can prevent loss of property, inconvenience, and damage to vehicles, especially in a “smash and grab” scenario where vehicle windows are broken in order to steal items inside the automobile. Take the time to practice good crime prevention and encourage family members and friends to do the same,” Police said in a news release.
Police have also had to almost constantly remind residents to not leave vehicles unlocked or running with the keys inside, as that greatly increases the risk of theft as well.
