The 5th event on the Grand Slam of Curling Tour is underway in North Battleford as the Canadian Open starts with 16 mens and 16 womens teams vying for a 250-thousand dollar purse in the triple-knockout event.
The winning teams earn $30,000 plus berths to the season-ending Humpty’s Champions Cup.
The first draw goes tonight at 7 with Kevin Koe up against three time Saskatchewan junior champ Rylan Kleiter who received an exemption Saskatoon`s Kirk Muyres will also be in the first draw as he plays the John Epping rink from Toronto.
Some of the others competing on the mens side are defending champ Peter De La Cruz of Switzerland, Brad Gushue, Brad Jacobs and Matt Dunstone.
The only Saskatchewan rink on the womens side of the bracket is hometown rink Robyn Silvernagle. Her first game is tomorrow morning against Tracy Fleury. Some of the others on the womens side looking to take home the title are defending champ Chelsea Carey, Anna Hasselborg, Rachel Homan and Jennifer Jones.
