It has been a while since the U of R basketball teams were on their home floor, but that is where they will be this weekend as the UBC-Okanagan Heat visit for games Friday and Saturday.
The women’s team, ranked 10th in Canada with a record of 9-3, will take on a team that has not tasted victory this season going 0-14.
Head Coach Dave Taylor says the record of the opposition doesn’t change the team’s philosophy.
“We have to play at a level that we are happy with.” Taylor said. “I won’t be happy if we win this weekend, but they don’t play well.
5th year forward Christina McCusker says it is nice to be back home, but after coming off a loss in their last game at Victoria it has them in a nasty mood.
“We don’t like to lose. We’re a very competitive bunch.” McCusker said. “We don’t take losses lightly. It doesn’t matter what the other team does, we only have so many opportunities to improve our game so it’s a big weekend.”
As for the men’s team, they are turning heads as they go into the weekend set against the Heat with a record of 8-4. Head Coach Steve Burros says there are many things about his team he likes, but the one thing is the fact they are united in what they do.
“They have worked hard. They know what we want and what we expect. There’s no personality, there’s no ego,” Burrows said. “It shows when they play. They don’t care who is getting it done. They move the ball, they share the ball and they give us a chance to be successful.
Game time Friday and Saturday at the CKHS is 6 with the women’s game starting things off both nights.
