The Regina Market will now be year round.
The market is adding a new winter session every Saturday through January and February at the Core Ritchie Neighbourhood Centre.
Executive Director Nikko Snyder said this is the first time in the market’s 44 year history there will be a winter session. “We decided that finally we had enough core agricultural producers and enough great Saskatchewan products to be able to bring Regina eaters a year-round farmers market.”
The winter edition of the market will look a little different compared to the spring and summer ones according to Snyder. “There is a year-round greenhouse so Floating Gardens are going to be bringing us fresh leafy greens but that will probably be the extent of vegetables that we are going to see this time of year.” She added that, “there will be some meat producers, fresh eggs, honey, baking and lots of prepared food.”
Snyder said the organization hopes to see lots of people come out and enjoy the fresh product. ” The farmers market is just a great family friendly event and of course it’s indoors this time of year. It’s just a really nice weekly event that people can bring there kids to, have breakfast, there’s kids activities, a public library as well, there’s a skating rink outside.” She added that it’s just a great way to break up the winter.
Snyder added the market is also launching a “Know Your Farmer” weekly series to educate you on Saskatchewan producers. This will feature a different producer every week.
