Rachel Homan took home first-place money at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Canadian Open in North Battleford on Sunday as her and her rink continued what has been an amazing year.
Homan edged Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland 4-3 in the women’s final Sunday for her 10th GSOC title. She is the first woman to hit double figures when it comes to Grand Slam events.
Homan, whose rink won $30,000 with the win, was in her fourth consecutive final. Homan finished runner-up at the Masters and captured back-to-back titles at the Tour Challenge and National. She went through the week in North Battleford with a perfect record.
In the men’s final, Earlier, Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher completed an undefeated run beating Toronto’s John Epping 6-3 to win their first Grand Slam event. Like Homan, Bottcher takes home $30,o000 and gets a spot in the year-end Champions Cup.
