Last night was carnival night at Elsie Mironuck School. Our youngest granddaughter goes to the school and wanted to go, so my wife and I thought it would be fun if we took the girls for a night out in the sunshine. Although our other granddaughter graduated from the school last year, she still has a lot of friends there, so she tagged along as well.
Our first stop, once we arrived, was to grab the food tickets, which we pre-ordered a couple of weeks ago. Nothing fancy. A piece of pizza, a drink, and some ice cream for dessert. Everything was set up outside and it was a busy little place full of happy kids running around in all directions.
There was a lot going on. There were a couple of inflatable bouncers which seemed to be very popular. The line up to get on to those was so long that you’d think the kids were lining up to buy Garth Brooks tickets. There was a bean bag toss, a ring toss, and a lot of other fun games to keep the kids occupied while parents and grandparents jockeyed for places to sit down and take in the sights and sounds of a wonderful night.
Kelcey ended up playing with her best friend while my wife and I had a chance to chat to her dad. He seemed to be a very nice man who works as a planner for the City of Regina. When he told me what he did for a living he was very quick to distance himself from all of the road construction going on. “I have nothing to do with any of that” he told me, like he’d been hounded a million times already about all of the orange signs going up around the city.
The carnival didn’t last long, only from 5:30-7, so we were on our way back home just after it ended. On the drive home my granddaughter said, “Papa has to go to bed when we get home.” I know, you get to stay up later than papa does, don’t rub it in!
All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend a Wednesday night.
