Ontario men facing charges after high-speed chase through Wynyard

Two men from Ontario were in a Yorkton courtroom Tuesday charged with dangerous driving and possession of stolen property.

23-year-olds John Hipwell and Lonnie Harrington were taken into custody after an incident in Wynyard where the alleged driver of a stolen car drove through the town at over double the speed limit.

Wynyard RCMP say an officer was on patrol Monday when he noticed suspicious behaviour in the parking lot of a gas station.

A check of the vehicle found it had been stolen with the vehicle being pulled over at one point on Highway 16.

As the officer approached the car, the driver took off going into the town at a speed of what RCMP say was well over 100 kilometers an hour in a 40 zone.

The incident came to an end north of the town when a spike belt was used.
