Riders lose pre-season finale to Winnipeg

Play time is over as the real season now begins.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders got one last chance to tune-up their game before the start of the 2019 CFL season on Thursday night as they battled the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  While the Bombers won the game 35-29,  there were several positives for the football team including the play of Zach Collaros.

The Riders QB played the first half and went 10 of 15 for 163 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  It was a performance that drew the approval of Head Coach Craig Dickenson.

“He had an efficient night, and I thought he threw the ball well,” Dickenson said. “He extended the play and found guys downfield. He did have one turnover, and we’d like to clean that up but that was a good performance by Zach and that’s the kind of stuff we expect to see.”

Isaac Harker may have secured himself a spot on the team as the rookie QB was 5 of 9 for 74 yards and a touchdown as he competes for the third-string position.

Another player who may have made the team was rookie receiver Paul McRoberts.  He had four catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Cuts now have to be made with the deadline being Saturday night at 8 PM.

The 2019 season starts in Hamilton Thursday June 13.
