How’s your garden coming along?

Earlier this spring I launched into something I didn’t anticipate seeing any success in. Gardening. I figured I’d plant the seeds or the plants and either a) they won’t come up because I’ve probably buried them to deep or b) if they do come up I’ll probably mistake them as weeds and pull them out, yielding nothing for late summer/early fall. So far, I’m only 50 per cent wrong!

I’m happy to report that I have radishes, peas, and one cucumber plant coming up. I can’t believe it either! I’m also trying to decipher whether one plant is that of a young corn stalk or just a weed that happens to grow perfectly in line with the corn row. I’m choosing to think it’s a corn plant.

The potatoes are not up yet, however I believe there may have been the start of an early plant that I pulled out thinking it was weed. Oops! I’m now down a potato, but judging by the growth of the peas and radishes I shall survive. I just hope the MANY neighbourhood rabbits aren’t reading this story this morning and find my garden.

At the end of the day, if nothing turns out, I do have two giant rhubarb plants that are growing like crazy and I don’t know a single person who doesn’t like rhubarb crisp. Happy gardening!
