Train and Semi truck collision at highway 16 near Foam Lake

One man is dead after a semi collided with a train on Highway 16, about three miles west of Foam Lake.

Foam Lake RCMP says at about 10:40am Friday morning crews were called to a grid road that intersects with Canadian Pacific Rail Line just off Highway 16.

A southbound semi was hit by an eastbound train and dragged until the train could stop.

RCMP says the truck was hauling non-hazardous material and the train was taking empty cars to Winnipeg. The train did not derail.

The lone driver of the semi, a 65 year old man from the Milestone area, was declared dead at the scene. None of the train crew reported any injuries.

Police says this incident will be investigated by the Canadian Pacific Police.
