Federal and provincial agriculture ministers announce supports for Saskatchewan farmers during drought conditions

The Federal and Provincial governments have jointly announced additional measures to address dry conditions across Saskatchewan.

Farmers will be able to seed any cereal green feed crop and have it covered through Saskatchewan Crop Insurance, as they have extended their deadline to July 15th.

As well, cattle producers are able to purchase insurance through the Western Livestock Price Insurance Program based on a forward market price on their cattle, and the 60 day continuous criteria will be waived for the 2019 grazing season.

Federal Ag minister Marie Claude Bibeau and provincial Ag minister David Marit both say this should help farmers get through what has undoubtedly been a difficult growing season.

The provincial government is also using this opportunity to remind farmers about the Farm Stress Line, which can be accessed by calling 1-800-667-4442, and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
