34 employees trapped in Nutrien potash mine since Tuesday

Work is being done to to free 34 maintenance workers who have been trapped in the Nutrien Cory potash mine since Tuesday afternoon.

Nutrien says the workers have been trapped since the service shaft, which moves employees and equipment up and down, stopped working.

The company says they are making arrangements to bring the workers back up using the operating shaft, which typically carries potash.

The workers are all safe and have access the enough air, water and food.

The mine is currently not producing any potash and was undergoing maintenance when the failure happened.

The mine site is about seven kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.
