RCMP officer under investigation after arrest video surfaces on social media

RCMP say a police officer in Pelican Narrows is being temporarily relocated an reassigned to non-front line work for a Code of Conduct investigation.

This comes after videos of two arrests involving the officer were posted on social media.

RCMP say the incidents happened on June 30th with one of the videos showing an officer pointing a gun at a suspect, who is on his knees and restrained by another officer, and can be heard swearing at the suspect and threatening to kill him.

Police say the audio is concerning, but the video doesn’t capture the entire interaction between the officer and suspect.

The events both before and after the language is used are under review.

A machete was seized during the incident.

RCMP add that it is reviewing two other arrests involving the same officer.
