Nutrien workers rescued from potash mine after service shaft malfunction

Maintenance workers trapped in Nutrien’s Cory Potash mine have been rescued.

Nutrien says 34 workers had been trapped underground since Tuesday afternoon when the service shaft to lift employees out of the mine stopped working.

The company says the workers were grouped together in refuge stations around the mine and had access to food, water and internet.

Nutrien adds that employees were in constant communication with those helping in rescue process and their families.

The mine site is about seven kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.
