After 20 years of representing the constituency of Arm River, MLA Greg Brkich has decided he won’t be running for a sixth term.
The long-standing member of the Saskatchewan Party will not be running in the next fall’s election despite a faithful following in his area.
Brkich was first elected into the provincial legislature back in 1999 when he was representing his area consisting of communities in south central Saskatchewan.
He was re-elected four times while serving as an MLA. Back in the 2016 election, he earned over 70 per cent of the vote.
As he plans to step away from politics, he said this move will give him a chance to focus on his agriculture business full time.
With Brkich’s name not on the ballot next year, it means this will be the first time in two decades that someone else will have the chance to become the leader of their area.
The next provincial election is set for October 26, 2020.
