NorSask Forest Products receives federal funds for sawmill

NorSask Forest Products will be receiving $3-million from the federal government to modernize its sawmill.

This is the latest in a series of investments.

That was the response from the Natural Resources Minister, Amarjeet Sohi, when asked if it was a political move with the looming election.

He says $400,000 was announced earlier this summer for safety and efficiency improvements for the mill owned by the Meadow Lake Tribal Council, and before that, over $52-million was announced to go towards building a Biomass Centre that will take the leftovers from the mill and transform it into green energy.

Chief of the MLTC, Richard Ben, says investment like these help to create employment, operational and economic stability, and continued growth opportunities.

He says the more they succeed, the fewer social investments are needed.
