Number 1’s at 1 – August 14

Today through Friday I’ll be filling for Colin Lovequist on Number 1’s at 1 and we’ve got another exciting line-up of country hits ready to go. Here’s what you expect on today’s show!

David Houston reached number 1 on this day in 1966 when “Almost Persuaded” stayed at the top of the country chart for nine weeks, a record that was not broken for over 46 years until Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” in December of 2012.

Charlie Rich started his second and final week at number 1 on this day in 1977 with “Rollin’ with the Flow,” originally done by T.G. Sheppard.

August 14th, 1981 was the final day at number 1 for Crystal Gayle’s “Too Many Lovers.” The song was her ninth number 1 and her third single off of her album “These days.”

Dan Seals was number 1 this week in 1990 with his final number 1 hit. A song that was originally done by the King of Soul, Sam Cooke in 1964. “Good times” stayed at number 1 for Dan seals for two weeks that year.

Blue Rodeo’s “Tremolo” was the number 1 album in Canada this week in 1997.

Shania Twain was wrapping up her second and final week at number 1 on the Canadian RPM Chart this week in 1999 with “You’ve Got a Way,” a song that led to a Grammy nomination for her.
