Harvest reaches 5 percent in parts of southeast Sask

Harvest is estimated at 5 percent in the Weyburn area of southeast Saskatchewan.

The regional crop specialist in Weyburn, Sherri Roberts, says this week’s rain has put a temporary halt to harvest operations.

She says combines have been rolling for almost 2 weeks in the southeast.

She estimates combining at least 5 percent complete, and higher in some areas south of Weyburn.

Roberts estimates crop production at normal to above average, but says some areas missed the rain and may be below average.

She expects harvest to continue through September because some crops are late maturing this year.
